The Green Bay Packers will be without at least one of their starting receivers Sunday at Detroit.Randall Cobb has been ruled out Lance Kendricks Jersey , a hamstring injury sidelining him for the second consecutive week.Davante Adams, who injured a calf at Wednesday's practice, will practice Saturday, coach Mike McCarthy said, and is listed as questionable. Also questionable is Geronimo Allison, who suffered a concussion during last week's victory over Buffalo and has not practiced this week. The Lions have ruled out defensive end Ziggy Ansah (shoulder), guard T.J. Lang (concussion) and tight end Michael Roberts (knee).Adams (28 receptions, 285 yards, three touchdowns), Allison (19 catches Davon House Jersey , 289 yards, two touchdowns) and Cobb (17 catches, 194 yards, one touchdown) represent 62.1 percent of the completions, 64.8 percent of the receiving yards and 85.7 percent of the passing touchdowns for Green Bay through the first four games."This is an important day," coach Mike McCarthy said about Friday, a recovery-and-rehabilitation day under the team's weekly format. "Usually by the end of today you have a pretty good idea how it's going to shake out. Injuries are a part of the game. You have to be able to play through injuries in games, play through injuries in practice, play through injuries that you're able to prepare for. That's all part of your game plan."Behind those three receivers, the Packers have three rookies 鈥?Marquez Valdes-Scantling Dean Lowry Jersey , J'Mon Moore and Equanimeous St. Brown. Valdes-Scantling has the only two catches from that group.Aaron Rodgers was removed from the injury report. He was full participation on Thursday 鈥?his first full-participation practice since suffering an injured left knee during the first half of the Week 1 victory over Chicago."It's a step forward, definitely," McCarthy said. "He took every rep (Thursday) in practice."Two starting defensive backs, cornerback Jaire Alexander and safety Kentrell Brice, are questionable for the Packers. Cornerback Kevin King, who missed the last two games with a groin injury, was full participation all week and was removed from the injury report. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Packers are signing another high-profile free agent: this time it’s safety Adrian Amos.Amos’ contract is a four-year deal worth $37 million with $21 million to be paid out in the first two seasons Kentrell Brice Jersey , per Ian Rapaport of NFL Network. This move helps the Packers at a critical area of need, but it also hurts a divisional rival, as Amos had played for the Chicago Bears over the last four years. The Bears drafted Amos out of Penn State in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft, and he has been a full-time starter since his rookie year. Amos has three interceptions in his career (all coming in the last two years), three forced fumbles, and two sacks. Given the flurry of safeties coming off the market on Monday, Amos was probably the second-best player remaining at the position, behind Earl Thomas.Amos fills a huge need at safety for the Packers. He had a solid performance at the 2015 NFL Combine, with a 4.56-second 40-yard dash and very good times in agility drills (4.03-second short shuttle and 7.09-second 3-cone).
Lamar Jackson will be the Ravens’ starting quarterback in 2019. Joe Flacco will be elsewhere. But what about the third quarterback on Baltimore’s 2018 roster? That quarterback White Justin Tucker Jersey , Robert Griffin III, said this morning that he hopes he’s back in Baltimore as Jackson’s backup for the 2019 season.“I’d love to be back. I feel like I have a good grasp of what this team is trying to do,” Griffin said. “I’d love to help Lamar continue to develop and also be available and ready to play. The question is, Is that going to happen? I don’t know. Are there going to be other opportunities for me around the league? I don’t know. We’ll see what happens but I’d love to be back.”From all indications, Griffin was a good teammate and mentor to Jackson during the 2018 season, and he may be a better fit than Flacco for the kind of offense the Ravens want to build going forward. Griffin’s contract is up and he’ll be a free agent in March Cheap Justice Hill Jersey , but re-signing him would make sense for both sides. Ozzie Newsome may no longer be calling all the shots for the Ravens, but he’s still very much part of the Ravens.Via Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com, Ravens General Manager Eric DeCosta said the 63-year-old Newsome is still very involved in the pre-draft process, even though DeCosta’s sitting in his old office and he doesn’t even have an official title.“I think he’s really enjoying it,” DeCosta said. “He’s grinding tape. He had a great time at the combine. He’s really been a valuable resource for me in terms of discussing players and what do you see. I think he’s really having fun with it.”It’s unclear how much input Newsome will actually have on draft weekend, but he has maintained a presence in the front office. He closed the Earl Thomas deal in free agency because of his long-term relationship with the agent Justice Hill Baltimore Ravens Jersey , and that’s the kind of expertise Baltimore would be foolish to not use.But it’s still DeCosta’s ship to steer, and while that could be awkward in some cases, the Ravens see it as only a positive.“In the end, though, it will be Eric’s call, and that’s good Womens Justice Hill Jersey ,” coach John Harbaugh said. “I think Eric has had a huge impact on the draft up until now. He’s been a big part of it. Ozzie’s and his relationship is very unique, very special.”And because they still communicate so easily and so well, DeCosta has a trusted aide with him when it’s time to make the call.
Yes John Cominsky Atlanta Falcons Jersey , he’s a tight end, but that’s not all."The Falcons’ fullback position has been in a flux several times over the last couple of years, especially after the departure of Patrick DiMarco. So while flux lies ahead again in 2019, it’s sort of nice to know who will be competing for the fullback job this early in the year, and even who will likely win the job. That’s because the job here in the early going is between an incumbent who was an afterthought in last year’s offense with a different offensive coordinator, and a fresh import who has experience in a Dirk Koetter offense and can play tight end and fullback, even though it’s not his primary role. For a team that prizes versatility, that’s a big plus. That guy is recent signee Luke Stocker. We don’t yet know how tight end is going to shake out with Austin Hooper, Logan Paulsen, and Eric Saubert all also around, but it’s very conceivable the team could keep four tight ends if Stocker’s going to play more than one role. Per Dan Quinn at the spring NFL meetings, specifically talking about the fullback position: Now, it’s possible the Falcons elect to use neither and bring in a new fullback, but the role has lessened in importance and impact for a couple of years now and the team would be wise to use a roster spot on a player who can do more than one thing. Ricky Ortiz played 13% of the offensive snaps (20% on special teams) in 2018, down from Derrick Coleman’s 22% of offensive snaps (and 63% of special teams snaps), which was in turn down considerably from DiMarco’s 31% of offensive snaps in 2016. Ortiz is a solid player but not a great one, and his limited ST role means the Falcons were using a roster spot on a player who wasn’t on the field for 85%-plus of the team’s snaps a year ago. It’s little wonder that Stocker’s being considered for that role, given that he has played more special teams snaps than Ortiz with the Titans and Bucs in each of the last three seasons. Importantly, the Falcons signed Stocker because he’s a player with prior experience in Dirk Koetter’s offense, which has not been fullback friendly in recent years. In 2017 Koetter used Alan Cross as a fullback/tight end hybrid on just 10% of offensive snaps, and under Koetter and Todd Monken last year the team barely used a traditional fullback at all. If Stocker is capable of playing fullback on the handful of snaps he’ll be asked to do so per game, and can serve as the third or fourth tight end, and can chip in on special teams Black John Cominsky Jersey , he’ll be an extremely useful player for the Falcons in 2019, and if he beats out Paulsen entirely the Falcons have have a free roster spot to shore up their defense or offensive line depth. A lot can change between now and September, but right now I think it’s safe to pencil him into that role, and it’s nice to see the Falcons thinking a little bit outside of the box here. EDTShareTweetShareShareNFL Draft prospect Justin Sumpter shares how he could fit into the Falcons’ offenseIf you’ve followed Kennesaw State football at all, you’ve heard of Justin Sumpter. The talented wide receiver is on the Falcons’ radar this draft season, and for good reason. Wide receiver isn’t a tremendous need for Atlanta, with talent like Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley, and Mohamed Sanu Sr. camped out in the top three spots on the depth chart. So why should the Falcons consider bringing in Sumpter, who earned All-Conference honors three times during his Kennesaw State career? It’s easier just to show you: Sumpter, a Georgia native, took the time to speak with The Falcoholic about his draft preparation process, how he might fit in Atlanta, and what it would be like to play for his hometown team. Why should NFL teams be considering Sumpter? Aside from his production in a triple option, run-first offense in college — Sumpter had 111 catches for 1,989 yards and 21 touchdowns over his time with the Owls — and his 6’3, 217-pound frame, Sumpter shared some other compelling reasons. “Great hands John Cominsky Atlanta Falcons Jersey , selfless, and great personality — you won’t have any problems with me in the locker room or anything like that,” Sumpter said. The months between a draft prospect’s final college game and the actual event are filled with preparation. Sumpter has been enjoying that. “It’s been pretty fun, to say the least. Just getting to meet new guys, going to new areas and working out, doing different things that I haven’t been doing my whole college career,” Sumpter said. “So just the whole thing, doing this whole process, has actually been pretty fun. It’s stressful at times, but overall, it’s very enjoyable. You are preparing for a job interview when you’re out preparing for a pro day and everything like that, so I take it in a serious manner. But just the fact that I’m even getting this opportunity to be able to do this, it’s been great and really a blessing to be able to say that I’m preparing for the NFL Draft.”Sumpter was invited to the Falcons’ local pro day on April 5. As an Atlanta local who grew up following the Falcons, that was a special experience.“That was a great experience, too, being able to go out and practice or try out, in a way, and show my skills for the home team — the team I’ve grown up going to their games,” Sumpter said. “I had season tickets one season. I’m really familiar with them more than any other team out there, just because I’m from Georgia, so I’ve been to some of the games, grew up watching the guys ... just knowing that one day I might be on the same team as them, it’s really a great feeling. Just going out there Cheap John Cominsky Jersey , being out there with guys from the SEC and Big Ten and things of that nature and showing that I can compete with them as well, it really just shows the hard work I’ve been putting in over this whole time.”This probably won’t surprise you. Like so many other folks who grew up in the Atlanta metro area or have followed this team for some time, there’s one player who stands out in his memory, and it’s Michael Vick. Why?“Really just his whole style of play,” Sumpter said. “It looked like he was a video game out there, just running around making big plays. He had a rocket for an arm, and usually people who are scrambling quarterbacks don’t have that type of arm. And then just the fact that he was playing here in Atlanta, so I was able to go to a bunch of his camps growing up, so I’ve actually met him a couple of times from just going to his camps, and he’s a good person. So having somebody like that around and being able to meet them is really motivational.”It’s no secret that the Falcons have arguably the strongest receiver group in football today. Playing with those guys would be a valuable learning experience for Sumpter. “I’m really just excited about it, because those are some of the top receivers in the game right now,” Sumpter said of Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley. “Me, coming from the triple option, I do have a lot to learn as a receiver. So being around those guys I feel like I would learn so much — just their releases, how to approach game situations, and how to read the DBs and have leverage and stuff like that. So I feel like it would only be a positive thing for me just to be around such a strong receiving corps.”So how would Sumpter fit into the Falcons’ offensive scheme?“Well, they would probably develop me into more of a route-running receiver, but I feel like they’d mainly use me just for the blocking the majority of the time, like on screens,” Sumpter said. “And I would have no problem with that ... laying a big block for Julio, he’s sprinting up the sideline for a touchdown. It would feel just as good as me doing it myself.”Sumpter could be a Day 3 pick or someone to snag as an undrafted free agent if he’s available when the draft wraps up. If the Falcons managed to land him, they’ll be getting a talented player with incredible size and hands and a team-first attitude — and a hometown guy to boot.

It’s one thing to say, “This defense needs an edge rusher” or “This receiving corps needs help”, but it’s an entirely new challenge to put yourself in the minds of their coaches to determine what kinds of edge rushers they like and what types of receivers they really need. Scheme matters.Philosophy matters. Most importantly, history matters. So for this week’s “Film Room” episode, I decided to look at all three of those things- scheme Womens Ryan Griffin Jersey , philosophy, and history -for the new Arizona Cardinals coaching staff to determine exactly what kind of quarterback this franchise really needs to be successful. What I found out, interestingly enough, affects the Texans just as much as any other ball club in the league. To put it bluntly - the NFL has been ripping off Kliff Kingsbury and the rest of the Air Raid coaching tree for far longer than I, or maybe anyone, anticipated. New England, Houston, Atlanta Womens Stephen Anderson Jersey , Los Angeles, Kansas City - you name any elite offense over the last decade or so, and you’ll likely find a ton of Air Raid concepts that make up large parts of their passing games. Packers tight end Lance Kendricks is about to be charged for possession of marijuana http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-ray-nitschke-jersey , after a 2017 traffic stop.According to聽Samantha Hernandez of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, the Outagamie County District Attorney’s office is preparing criminal drug charges Kendricks.Kendricks was initially given a citation for possession of marijuana, which carries a fine of up to $1,000. That citation was dismissed last week, however. The charges stem from a traffic stop last September, when Kendricks was stopped for doing 81 mph in a 70 mph zone. While TMZ reported he’d be charged for the marijuana possession, he denied it at the time. He was eventually given the citation last December, but now faces increased penalties. The charges would also subject him to possible league punishment. Both CBS Sports and USA Today have the Packers involved in a trade of some kind, one of which we’ll get to later, but there’s a move-down trade we’ll address in this piece. The general consensus among these mock drafts also include the Packers using their first pick in the first round on a defensive player, most commonly an edge rusher. Adding pieces to the defense is key to having the Packers get back into the playoffs considering how many players on that side might be allowed to walk or get cut this offseason. CBS Sports: Ed Oliver, DT, Houston Pick 12Muhammad Wilkerson has told The Athletic that he would like to return to Green Bay and another one-year prove-it deal would be beneficial to both sides, They already have Pro Bowl-level talent in Mike Daniels and Kenny Clark http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-clay-matthews-jersey , and Montravius Adams can provide some stability in relief downs. Adding Ed Oliver would be a great luxury for the Packers, though. As we saw last year, D-Line depth is important to Mike Pettine’s defense and losing Daniels for stretches and Wilkerson for the majority of the season really hampered their ability to win in the trenches. Oliver is an explosive athlete who could be moved all around the defensive line. Though he’s not an EDGE player, he can still get after the quarterback very effectively.USA Today: Brian Burns, EDGE, Florida StatePick 23USA Today’s mock draft has the Packers trading back two different times to accumulate draft picks, but still get a solid EDGE player who should probably be drafted higher. Burns is an explosive prospect who already has pretty solid technique. His ability to put his hand in the turf or stand up is enticing for the Packers’ 3-4 defense. While Burns is a great athlete with good change of direction ability, he does need to add a little bit more size so he doesn’t get pushed around by bigger, more refined NFL offensive linemen. His length makes him a fun prospect, but if he adds weight Geronimo Allison Jersey , you have to hope that doesn’t impact his athleticism.SB Nation & The Ringer: Jachai Polite, EDGE, FloridaPick 12Meanwhile, there’s another EDGE in the state of Florida who could come in and make life difficult for opposing QBs in the NFC North. Polite will cut his teeth as a pass-rush specialist early on in his career, but once he adds a little more bulk, he should be able to become more well-rounded in defending against the run. He’ll also need to work on discipline in maintaining the edge during run plays. His athleticism is freakish, however raw he may be. Polite has great burst and flexibility coming around the corner. Much like Burns, Polite has experience starting in a two-point or three-point stance which will be essential in Pettine’s defense.Bleacher Report: Devin White, LB, LSUPick 12It’s no secret that I was really high on picking up Roquan Smith last year. The Packers unfortunately didn’t get a shot at him with the Bears scooping him up Kevin King Jersey White , but I was enamored with the idea of how a sideline-to-sideline linebacker could open up more possibilities in Pettine’s defense. Devin White can be that type of player, but also a little more stout that Smith in terms of stopping the run and shedding blocks. White’s closing speed is fantastic and watching him drop into coverage and effect plays in zone coverage would be a great compliment to the sure-tackler, Blake Martinez. The top-15 in these mock drafts is a fairly muddled mess of defenders with one or two quarterbacks sprinkled in, so it’s difficult to tell if the Packers would get another chance at a star-potential linebacker, or watch him picked up right before.
We’re knee-deep in mock draft season Barry Sanders Jersey , and with three months until the highly anticipated event, it’s time to start look at what draft analysts all over the world think may happen in the 2019 NFL Draft. We now know that the Lions hold three picks in the first 88 selections of the draft, but who will they select?Between now and then, prospects will move up and down the board based on their NFL Combine performance, Senior Bowl play and other draft related events before April. But for now, let’s take a look around the webosphere to get a baseline of who may be available when the Lions are slotted to pick eighth overall. The Draft Network (Benjamin Solak)Round 1 pick: Houston DT Ed Oliver This name will probably come as a shock to many who declared back in November they wanted the Lions to “Play Dead for Ed,” who was thought to be an top-five lock in the 2019 draft. However, Solak defends Oliver’s drop here by saying that the Houston defensive tackle may not be the kind of player everyone is looking for.“Oliver is gonna be a player that only some teams like,” Solak wrote. “His size (if he hits 280 pounds it’s a huge win) will turn some teams away.”But given that Aaron Donald was given the “undersized” label and taking into account Oliver’s unbelievable production (53.0 tackles for loss in three seasons), Oliver seems like an easy pick here if he’s available—even if he’s not an ideal fit in Matt Patricia’s defensive scheme. Round 2 pick: Stanford TE Kaden SmithIt’s undeniable that tight end is a huge need for the Lions after Detroit aggressively tried to add one last year and failed. Way back in September, our own Kent Lee Platte talked up Smith as a potential target for 2019: Smith proved to be just as valuable as expected in 2018. He pulled in 47 catches for 635 yards and two touchdowns in his junior year. However, he did miss the final three games with a foot injury. Smith joins a long list of former Stanford Cardinal tight ends that project well to the NFL. Since 2012, five Stanford tight ends have been taken in the draft: Dalton Schulz, Austin Hooper Michael Roberts Jersey , Zach Ertz, Levine Toilolo and Coby Fleener. SB Nation (Dan Kadar)Round 1 pick: Clemson DE Clelin Ferrell Ferrell would fill arguably the Lions’ biggest need as an edge defender, and coming off a solid National Championship performance, it’s easy to see why this was the pick Kadar made. Ferrell’s production at Clemson has been undeniable—producing 38.0 tackles for loss and 21.0 sacks in his past two seasons. However, he is also one of the most polarizing prospects in the draft because of inconsistent tape and questions about his limited pass rushing moves.CBS Sports (Ryan Wilson)Round 1 pick: Washington CB Byron MurphyA favorite of our own Alex Reno, Murphy could come in and immediately fill the void the Lions have had alongside Darius Slay for years. In 2018, the Lions allowed a passer rating of 102.7 (30th) and 7.9 yards per attempt (t-27th). Although Nevin Lawson is signed for another season, the Lions are likely looking to upgrade considering they made efforts to sign Richard Sherman and Malcolm Butler last offseason. As for Murphy himself, I’ll let Reno explain what he would bring to the table:NJ.com (Mike Kaye)Round 1 pick: Kentucky EDGE Josh Allen Most believe Allen will be long gone by the time the Lions are on the clock at eighth overall, but in Kaye’s hypothetical draft, an early run on quarterbacks (Dwayne Haskins, Kyler Murray and Drew Lock) helped the premier edge talent fall to Detroit. If this were to happen, it’s hard to imagine the Lions spending more than a couple seconds on the clock. Allen has the production, athleticism and versatility to be a centerpiece to Patricia’s defense Taylor Decker Jersey , especially with Ezekiel Ansah likely gone next season. CBS Sports (Chris Trapasso)Round 1 pick: Ole Miss WR A.J. BrownWhile most mocks are understandably focused on defense in early rounds, wide receiver should certainly be a pretty high priority for the Lions, as well. The trade of Golden Tate and injury to Marvin Jones Jr. highlighted the Lions’ lack of receiving depth (especially without a tight end threat). Brown is a bit of a polarizing prospect, because while his route-running is undeniably impressive, his athletic traits aren’t exactly eye-popping. He projects to be the kind of big slot receiver that the Lions coveted with Anquan Boldin a few years back, so the fit is presumably good—although Detroit’s lack of offensive coordinator makes it hard to definitively say that. With all the excitement around the NFL last weekend, it was one high-scoring Saints-Buccaneers game that brought home all the money in daily fantasy contests.Tampa Bay quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 400-plus yards and four touchdowns, while adding another 36 yards and a score with his legs. Two of Fitzpatrick’s top weapons, DeSean Jackson and Mike Evans, cracked the 100-yard threshold and accounted for three of the receiving touchdowns. On the other side of the ball, the New Orleans was forced to play catch-up, leading Drew Brees to attempt 45 passes, the majority going toward Michael Thomas (16 catches, 180 yards A’Shawn Robinson Jersey , one TD) and Alvin Kamara (9-112-1). There was more than 1,000 yards of total offense in the Bucs’ 48-40 victory. And the $1 million Fanduel winner loaded up on the game, playing Fitzpatrick, Jackson, Thomas and Kamara.Stacking, or pairing a QB with a wide receiver or tight end, is a strategy that has been used for years by many of the best fantasy players to win daily fantasy tournaments. The Saints-Bucs game showed the power of “game stacking” 鈥?combining up to three or four players from the same game in hopes of a shootout. While it’s an aggressive approach that can leave fantasy players in last place if it doesn’t work, it will hit big when it hits. One of the best games to consider stacking this weekend is the San Francisco 49ers vs the Detroit Lions. Jimmy Garoppolo was held in check last week at Minnesota, which finished as the third toughest defense in 2017 against opposing QBs. The 49ers should bounce back this week at home versus the Lions, who are on a short week having given up 48 points to the Jets on Monday night. The 49ers have the fourth highest team total this week with Las Vegas oddsmakers projecting them to score close to 27 points. With wide receiver Marquise Goodwin day-to-day, Garoppolo can be paired with wide receiver Pierre Garcon and tight end George Kittle, who accounted for 47 percent of the team’s targets in the opening game. If Garoppolo has a tournament-winning performance (300-plus yards or three-plus touchdowns) it is likely that both Garcon and Kittle benefit. The other value of a 49ers game stack is that you can “bring it back” with an attractive stack from the opposing team. Wide Receiver Kenny Golladay is an attractive value and his $4,800 price was locked in before he exploded Monday night for 100-plus yards and 20-plus fantasy points on DraftKings. Golladay out-snapped both Golden Tate and Marvin Jones, accounting for 93-percent of the snaps and receiving 12 targets Graham Glasgow Jersey , making him the top option as part of this game stack. For daily users who prefer multi mass enter contests, composing 20 or more lineups in a single contest, the 49ers-Lions game is perfect. While Golladay is the preferred option due to value, all three Lions receivers are projected within 3 fantasy points of each other. Both Golden Tate and Marvin Jones saw 80 percent of snaps as the Lions ran a lot of three wide receiver sets and were both targeted twice in the red zone. Users composing multiple DFS lineups can game stack Garoppolo-Garcon-Kittle with Golladay on one lineup, Tate on another, and Marvin Jones on a third, ensuring that if the game does shoot out and the 49ers win, you have a lot of the combinations covered.___This column was provided to The Associated Press by DailyRoto, http://dailyroto.com
The NFL Draft is about teams adding players with skillsets that they do not possess. The Bengals implementing Burns into their pass rush exemplifies that perfectly. EDTShareTweetShareShare11 for 11 NFL Draft series: Brian Burns can add a new dimension to the Bengals’ defenseMelina Myers-USA TODAY SportsAlmost one year later, it remains unexplainable how safety Derwin James lasted beyond the first 16 picks of the 2018 NFL Draft. We could be saying the same thing about James’ former teammate Brian Burns in one year’s time as well. NFL teams like to use the phrase “checking all the boxes”when referring to great prospects, but what exactly are the true boxes that need to be checked? For edge rushers, the best have typically always been above average all-around athletes and have produced at a high level in at least one season for their college program. In this year’s crop of pass rushers, it’s difficult to find someone with a cleaner r茅sum茅 than Burns who can also back it up with game tape. Yet as we approach the final week of draft preparation, Burns’ name is absent from most discourse regarding the top-10 picks and is projected to come off the board somewhere in the middle of the first round. For a team that has shown significant interest in bolstering their pass rush, the Bengals should be a logical landing spot for Burns’ services. I’m here to speak it into existence. Why the pick makes sense:The same arguments we made for the Bengals drafting Montez Sweat apply for Burns as well. Depth behind Carlos Dunlap at the EDGE position is questionable at best, which is not something any team should feel comfortable about at such an imperative position group. An extra body who can provide a pass-rushing spark is needed.Production traits Rodney Anderson Jersey Mens , athleticism traits and film traits make Burns one of the safest prospects in this entire draft.Only Nick Bosa can be argued to have a greater mental acumen for his edge-rushing process in this class. He actually lead the ACC in pressures for edge rushers eligible for the draft (this article breaks down his process magnificently).Though he measured in smaller than 250 pounds and played even lighter than that, Burns’ value as a pass rusher trumps his likelihood of being a traditional edge-setting defensive end by a considerable amount. You don’t draft edge rushers high to defend the run in the first place.Even if you don’t consider him a complete edge player, the Bengals already have two “base” edges in Dunlap and Sam Hubbard. Let Burns worry about getting after the quarterback alongside Carl Lawson. On draft night, Burns will have turned 21 just two days prior, giving him even more objective upside than he already had.Burns’ obtainable ceiling is that of a Pro Bowl edge rusher, and with the film backing it up, that’s a player that is worth a high-first round pick every year. While he can rush in from a two and three-point stance, Burns also has experience as an off ball linebacker and can act as a quarterback spy in specific packages Youth Rodney Anderson Jersey , which would a much needed element for the Bengals’ defense. Ultimately, Burns’ ability to threaten the edge with speed and bend would give the Bengals a unique asset to their defense that they haven’t had in quite some time. Why the pick doesn’t make sense:There is a slight question in value. Defensive line is going to be a position group heavily targeted in the top 10 picks and Burns will be at least the third edge rusher off of the board.Burns would provide significant snaps in his rookie year, but the Bengals would not be drafting a “starter” with their most important pick here.Picking Burns means going into the second day of the draft still needing a new linebacker and an offensive tackle.Burns lacks the traditional density of a three-down defensive end — which may give the Bengals the idea of making him put on unnecessary added weight. Because of that lack of build, Burns is not the most effective edge-setter, which could diminish his value in some eyes. The addition of Burns likely means 2017 third-round pick Jordan Willis is on the hot seat and could stunt his development even more. There’s more reasons to like the Bengals drafting Burns than vice versa. The 32nd ranked defense from a year ago had more issues than at linebacker, and Burns’ presence would add a fresh dimension to a unit that has been mainly dormant and without an identity. Don’t worry about if he starts or not — his contributions will be more than noticeable by year’s end. What do you think about the Bengals drafting Burns with the 11th overall pick?Bengals re-sign Michael Johnson, add Christian Hackenberg to practice squad, place Davontae Harris on IR The Cincinnati Bengals have announced three roster moves on Monday White Rodney Anderson Jersey , including the re-signing of Michael Johnson to the 53-man roster, the addition of Christian Hackenberg to the practice squad, and rookie cornerback Davontae Harris being placed on Injured/Reserve.The Johnson re-signing and Hackenburg addition were both reported on Sunday. Harris, a 2018 fifth-round pick out of Illinois State, suffered a knee injury against the Cowboys in Week 2 of the preseason, which has kept him sidelined ever since. He made the initial 53-man roster, however, that was so he could be eligible to get the IR-return designation after eight weeks. During the last three college football seasons Germaine Pratt Cincinnati Bengals Jersey , Harris totaled 37 pass defenses at Illinois State. The three-year starter tested well at the combine with a 4.43 second 40 yard dash, 22 reps on the bench press, and a 4.4 20 yard shuttle. He struggles with technique and hip fluidity, which contributed to him falling to the fifth round of the draft. Before the 2018 NFL Draft began, Harris, who was selected 151st overall in the fifth round, was widely projected as a Day 3 prospect, though some experts didn’t even rank him Germaine Pratt Jersey 2019 , including ESPN’s Todd McShay. It was clear from the beginning that he was a developmental prospect who was going to take some time to get used to playing at the NFL level. That was evident throughout training camp and the preseason and now he’ll have time to further learn the playbook while on IR. Harris could return in Week 9 — or later — if the Bengals choose to use one of their two return designations on the rookie. In the meantime, the Bengals are set at cornerback with a solid trio of William Jackson, Dre Kirkpatrick and Darqueze Dennard, but the depth behind them is pretty shaky. Don’t be surprised to see several moves made at defensive back in the coming weeks
NASHVILLE Bruce Matthews Jersey , Tenn. (AP) — Unthinkable at the start of December, Derrick Henry has put together the best two-game stretch in franchise history to put himself 118 yards shy of the first 1,000-yard rushing season in his three-year NFL career. It's still not a number that the Titans running back and 2015 Heisman Trophy winner is pondering."I'm not focused on that," Henry said Wednesday. "I'm focused on us getting this (win) and us finishing off the week right, going in there prepared and executing the plan and whatever happens happens. And I don't really focus on 1,000 yards. As long as we get this win, that's what I'll be happy with." The 6-foot-3, 247-pound Henry has turned around not just his season, but cemented his spot on the Tennessee roster. Rumors swirled that the Titans tried to trade him away at the deadline earlier this year, and Henry lost his starting spot to veteran Dion Lewis in November. Then Henry, who had been running much better since Tennessee's bye at the end of October, turned in a game for the record books Dec. 6.Henry tied Tony Dorsett's NFL record with a 99-yard touchdown run and finished with a franchise-record 238 yards on 17 carries and scored four touchdowns in a 30-9 rout of Jacksonville. That got Henry back in the starting lineup, and he ran a career-high 33 times for 170 yards and two TDs in a 17-0 shutout against the New York Giants. His 408 yards combined over the two games are the best in team history, topping the 405 yards Hall of Fame running back Earl Campbell managed for the then-Houston Oilers in October 1980. Nobody had ever run for six TDs over two games for this franchise before Henry.Offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur said he knows Henry was a little frustrated earlier this season. So what changed? Better blocking and play all around, especially by Henry."I just think he's running with a purpose, running with an attitude, a mindset a mentality that I'm not going down," LaFleur said.Three-time Pro Bowl left tackle Taylor Lewan says it's cool to be part of record-setting performances."He finds the holes, and he makes those extra guys miss," Lewan said. "You can't block them all on every single play. As much as we'd like to take credit, that's him."Now Henry can run for just 59 yards apiece over each of the next two games to reach 1,000 yards for the season, and he gets his first chance Saturday against Washington (7-7). The Redskins have allowed at least 130 yards rushing over each of the past five games.Henry is very familiar with Washington's defensive line, having won championships with defensive end Jonathan Allen and rookie nose tackle Daron Payne at Alabama. But the running back, so critical of his own play early this season Womens Bennie Logan Jersey , insists he's not worried about reaching 1,000 yards as long as the Titans win."For me to be doing this stuff, you have to look at what's happening around me," Henry said. "That's why I always say team because for me to have success and make big plays, everybody looks at what's going on around me, and those guys are doing their job. I'm just going out there trying to do mine."Coach Mike Vrabel called Henry the type of leader who works to improve what he is doing, which has carried over."Happy for his success and hope we can get him as many yards as we can get him," Vrabel said.Notes: Five Titans did not practice Wednesday: Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jurrell Casey (knee), LBs Brian Orakpo (elbow) and Sharif Finch (left shoulder), WR Tajae Sharpe (ankle) and LB Wesley Woodyard (back), added to the injury report after not being listed Tuesday. QB Marcus Mariota (foot) and S Kenny Vaccaro (concussion protocol) practiced fully.Titans vs. Steelers time, TV schedule, odds, streaming, announcers and more The third preseason game is the dress rehearsal, right? Well apparently not so fast my friend. Mike Vrabel said that wouldn’t necessarily be the case for the Titans in Pittsburgh. Add this to the long list of things that Vrabel is doing unconventionally. There will be a lot of guys we won’t see in this game. That list includes (but is not limited too) Derrick Morgan, Malcolm Butler, Brian Orakpo, Rashaan Evans, Jack Conklin and Rishard Matthews. It would be hard to make it a dress rehearsal anyway with all of those guys not playing. We can still get a decent look at the first team offense with most of the injuries being on the defensive side of the ball. The first surgery of Trent Williams' life put more fear into him than any pass-rusher on a football field."I was scared Womens Anthony Nelson Jersey ," Williams said. "I was terrified."Not much terrifies the Washington Redskins' star left tackle, though this was different. Now eight months removed from major surgery on his right knee, Williams is ready to get back on the field when the Redskins open the season at the Arizona Cardinals and already looks like the player he was before the debilitating injury."He looks amazing," coach Jay Gruden said this week. "We just have to make sure we take care of him, get him right. Physically, I think for the game, he's in great football shape. He's always been in great football shape but I expect him to be Trent Williams, the best left tackle in football."Williams has gotten that kind of praise from Tampa Bay defensive end Gerald McCoy and others around the NFL and earned respect for playing through countless injuries. His six games missed last season were more than he sat out for injury combined over the previous five seasons. This knee injury was so bad it forced Williams not to play and affected his mindset."It was difficult to have to — I'm not going say give up — but basically have to go ahead and I guess bow down out of the battle," Williams said. "I just more so felt defeated because I had tried so hard to continue to work through."Williams was so determined to gut it out he played games even when Washington was eliminated from playoff contention. The sight of his name on the injured reserve list for the first time in his career was the wakeup call he needed to finally go under the knife. That happened Dec. 29: a medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction by way of a tibial tubercle osteotomy, which involved breaking his tibia bone and realigning it with the knee joint. Every doctor he saw told him he was underestimating how major it was."I was," Williams said. "Maybe I was in denial. I did underestimate how intense it was and how hard the recovery was going to be."Eight weeks of being unable to get around without crutches or assistance followed. Williams spent months building the strength back up on both legs, got eased back into practices and still had a hurdle to overcome that's common to players coming off knee surgery."Trent came in and he did drills with us in OTAs and to me he looked quicker and faster than he had been before," running back Chris Thompson said. "But then when you get out here and bodies start flying, people start coming towards you full-speed, mentally you're just like, 'Oh, I don't know if I'm ready yet.'"Williams took limited snaps in the preseason as the team preferred a cautious approach to getting Williams to Week 1. As he built up his workload through training camp, teammates saw glimpses of Williams at his best."He hasn't lost his step," right tackle Morgan Moses said. "The guy obviously is an incredible athlete. He runs like a deer. He runs like a guy that's supposed to be playing slot receiver."Williams is still dealing with scar tissue and managing internal expectations. But now he can put his weight on his right leg without the burden of worrying about what'll happen next."It's a relief because at the time I was playing and putting other ligaments and other parts of my body at major risk and I knew the risk I was taking prior to doing so," he said. "When you're competing and you're a competitor, all that stuff kind of falls to the wayside. You throw caution out the window. But it feels great knowing I'm not bowing out anymore."Follow Stephen Whyno on Twitter at ://SWhyno . TAMPA Anthony Nelson Tampa Bay Buccaneers , Fla. (AP) — Tampa Bay’s bid to lure Bruce Arians out of retirement and back to the NFL included a pitch from baseball manager Joe Maddon. The 66-year-old coach grew up in York, Pennsylvania, not far from Maddon’s hometown of Hazelton. He and the Chicago Cubs skipper have grown close since Buccaneers general Jason Licht introduced them several years ago.Maddon, 64, managed the Tampa Bay Rays for nine years before moving on to the Cubs in 2015. He lives in Florida during the offseason and owns a popular South Tampa restaurant where he and Arians dined last weekend.“I had already convinced myself. But we’re old friends,” Arians said Thursday, when he formally was introduced as Tampa Bay’s fifth new coach in a decade.“It was more break bread, have fun. I didn’t need any convincing.”Arians coached the Arizona Cardinals for five years, compiling a 49-30-1 record and making the playoffs twice before retiring after the 2017 season. He cited health concerns and a desire to spend more time with family for walking away, but was unable to fill the void working in a broadcast booth the past year.“There’s something about growing up in the locker room, the bonds and relationships you build in building a football team,” Arians said. “The ups the downs, and all the things that go in between, is probably what I love most about the game. I missed the arena.”The Bucs, who haven’t made the playoffs since 2007, fired former coach Dirk Koetter on Dec. 30. Armed with a checklist of what the club wanted in a replacement, Licht interviewed Arians, as well as Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator George Edwards and Dallas Cowboys defensive backs coach Kris Richard.Licht knew Arians from the GM’s days as vice president of player personnel in Arizona, but stressed he also was everything the Bucs were looking for — a coach with a commanding presence and proven track record for winning and developing players and assistant coaches, as well as someone who would bring some swagger to the team.“He wants to put a (Super Bowl) ring on everyone’s hand in this organization O. J. Howard Jersey ,” Licht said.“He has a fire and passion for this game that burns very deep inside,” Bucs owner/co-chairman Bryan Glazer said, adding Arians is a “confident, proven leader and has a clear vision and plan for getting our franchise back to playing winning football.”And Arians, who inherits Jameis Winston as his starting quarterback, doesn’t believe it’ll take long to transform the Bucs into a championship contender.“I think we have the core here to win quickly,” Arians said. “I’m not about building, I’m about reloading.”When Arians was hired in Arizona, he took over a team that finished 5-11 the year before his arrival and went 10-6 in his first season in 2013.“This one’s much easier, I believe,” he said. “When I walked into Arizona we had no quarterbacks.”However, the Cardinals quickly filled that void by trading for Carson Palmer.Arians has known Winston since the 25-year-old quarterback was a high school player attending one of the coach’s football camps in Birmingham, Alabama.Winston is 21-33 as a starter over the past four seasons and only one quarterback — Jacksonville’s Blake Bortles — has more turnovers than Winston’s 75 since he entered the league as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 draft.Winston is entering the final year of his rookie contract. Arians said there’s no added on pressure on former Heisman Trophy winner to prove he’s Tampa Bay’s long-term solution at quarterback.“No pressure. No pressure whatsoever. I want him to relax and play the game. Talent’s no issue. It’s just (playing) a little smarter,” said Arians, who’s hiring former Cardinals assistant Byron Leftwich as his offensive coordinator.“With Clyde Christenson as his quarterback coach and Byron, he’s going to be coached as well as he’s ever been and more prepared than he’s ever been fundamentally and mentally,” Arians added. “It’s his team. I’ll tell our players in the first meeting. This isn’t my team, it’s your team. We’ll be as good as you want to be.”
The Seahawks are reportedly adding a potential backup for quarterback Russell Wilson to the roster.Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports that Seattle is set to sign Geno Smith. Paxton Lynch and undrafted rookie Taryn Christion are currently the non-Wilson quarterbacks on the depth chart. The Seahawks would make four teams in four years for Smith. His last start came with the Giants during the 2017 season when Ben McAdoo benched Eli Manning for a game against the Raiders that turned out to be McAdoo’s final one as the Giants’ head coach.Smith was selected by the Jets in the second round of the 2013 draft. Lamm signs with Cleveland"Kendall Lamm was the Texans week one starter in 2017. The Texans gave up ten sacks to Jacksonville that game with Lamm as the left tackle to fill in for the recently traded Duane Brown. Tom Savage was benched for Deshaun Watson. Lamm was eventually replaced by Juli’en Davenport. Despite his atrocious 2017 when Lamm was one of the worst tackles in football Womens Tashaun Gipson Jersey , the Texans kept him on the roster for 2018. The tackle position was scrambled for weeks after starting right tackle Seantrel Henderson smashed his ankle in week one. Houston eventually settled on Davenport at left and Lamm at right. Last season Lamm was a decent enough pass blocker. 2017’s embarrassment was blacked out. He was a horrendous run blocker though and was almost unplayable against Philadelphia and Indy, cratering the run game on his own. Still, you gotta be proud of the guy to come from putrid to kind of crappy on the span of a year. You gotta grind to get the view. If he continues to evolve as a player it's going to happen in Cleveland. Today the Browns signed him for 2-years $7 million. The Texans current tackle combination is the same as it was in week one 2017—Davenport and Henderson. Cooper-USA TODAY SportsThe 2019 NFL Combine started last week and ended today. A collection of young men running around real fast and jumping real high gathers a collection of old men to watch said young men Will Fuller V Jersey White , and talk in secret circles of trades, rumors, and where the league is and where the league is going. Ahhhhh networking. Make sure you have plenty of business cards and resumes. This seance brought out a couple of BIG Texans’ rumors. First off, the Houston Texans are looking to trade Kevin Johnson this offseason. Johnson is owed $9.1 million this season after having his fifth year option picked up last season. Johnson was great his first two seasons, but since then he’s been injured, and even when healthy he’s been horrendous. The burst to break on the ball isn’t there. Constant missed tackles. Turning and chasing without finding the ball. Concussions and aching limbs. Johnson would have fit in perfectly on that 2010 Texans team. Although Johnson has been terrible, he’s still a former first round pick. Usually this label will give a player a couple of turns on different teams. That being said, I would be surprised if the Texans get anything for him. If they can get anything at all they should take it. The salary Whitney Mercilus Jersey White , injury history, and previous performance aren’t worth the roster spot, and it’s money that can go elsewhere to improve a hideous cornerback group. A sixth round pick. A seventh round pick. Cash considerations. Rights to Christian Hackenberg. It doesn’t matter. Take it. If not, expect for Johnson to be released before free agency begins. The other is regarding the safety position. Kareem Jackson said in an (I’m sick typing this) Instagram post that there’s a 99% chance he’ll be playing in different colors next year. Now, these are just comments in a public space, and hopefully he just means the Texans are going to use a different shade of blue in 2019. This seems like wishful thinking. Aaron Wilson reported the Texans are looking at keeping Tyrann Mathieu. With Justin Reid and Andre Hal on the roster there is no reason to keep both Jackson and Mathieu. Jackson is a safety now. He doesn’t have the same athleticism to mask his sloppy footwork. You don’t want him playing man coverage any longer. Yet, he’s one of the best tackling defensive backs, he’s a premier run and pass blitzer http://www.thetexanslockerroom.com/authentic-julien-davenport-jersey , and is perfect at playing short zone. Do you want him covering tight ends or slot receivers? Naw. But Mathieu isn’t great at anything. He’s a mediocre player. He does a couple of things pretty well, and also struggles in coverage, see any game against the Colts last season. Jackson is the best in the league in what he does. Mathieu tricks you into thinking he provides more than he actually does. Justn Reid can be used in the same role as Mathieu, and is better at it. The reasons why the Texans would sign Mathieu instead is age, and scheme fit. Mathieu will be 27 and Jackson will be 31 when the 2019 season starts. And the Texans probably think that by upgrading the cornerback position they can get Mathieu out of the slot and have him play more strong safety than he did last year. Fine. I get it. I would just rather have Jackson, who can play the same role, is great at what he does, then have Mathieu. If I was Brian Gaine I’d offer Jackson some type of two-year contract to stay here instead of keep Mathieu around. There’s also the chance both leave and Houston plays Hal and Reid at safety and add a cheap veteran as a third safety to put even more money in the cornerback position. This seems unlikely though. I’d expect for Mathieu to stay and for Jackson to leave based on what the internet has told me. Oh well. Whatever. I’m not mad. You’re mad. Lastly Womens Kendall Lamm Jersey , expect for Clowney to be franchise tagged by Tuesday or prior to it. As Wilson states, the Texans can tag Clowney and ensure he stays on the team for the 2019 season. From there they continue to negotiate his enormous contract until July 15th, or let him prove his greatness one more season before extending him next offseason. Whatever the path Houston takes doesn’t matter. What matters is they keep Clowney for this season and the future.
The Green Bay Packers’ defense has struggled to create turnovers this season Kentrell Brice Jersey White , but cornerback Bashaud Breeland came up with a big one in the second quarter on Sunday. With the Atlanta Falcons facing a third-and-four at their own 14-yard line, Breeland identified the route being run by tight end Austin Hooper. Breaking quickly on Matt Ryan’s throw to the right sideline, Breeland easily intercepted the pass and returned it untouched to the end zone for a 22-yard touchdown return.Breeland now has his first career Lambeau Leap. That score gave the Packers a 17-7 lead midway through the second quarter. It was Breeland’s second interception as a Packer in just four games; he also picked off Brock Osweiler during the Packers’ last victory, a 31-12 win over the Miami Dolphins at Lambeau Field in week 10.This is just the 13th turnover that the Packers’ defense has forced this season Womens Josh Jackson Jersey , and it is the first takeaway since the Packers recovered a fumble by Seahawks running back Chris Carson three weeks ago. It is also the sixth interception Ryan has thrown against the Packers in seven-plus games, including the playoffs. There has been much made about the new power structure of the Green Bay Packers’ front office, with both general manager Brian Gutekunst and head coach Matt LaFleur reporting directly to team president Mark Murphy. This is a big change from the past 25 years for the Packers. From the time Ron Wolf arrived in 1991 up until the end of the 2017 season, the general manager reported to the president and the head coach reported to the GM Womens Clay Matthews Jersey , allowing Wolf full control over the football operation.Murphy decided to change that after the 2017 season when he hired Gutekunst to replace Ted Thompson to improve communication between the new GM and then-head coach Mike McCarthy. Fans, especially those weary of the pre-Wolf days where the team president and board of directors would meddle in football-related affairs, were and still are skeptical. The same can be said about the reporters covering the team judging by the questions Murphy has faced in press conferences since the 2018 season ended.Murphy continues to insist he isn’t a micromanager and will allow Gutekunst and LaFleur to work without interference. Some thought Gutekunst would assume full control of the football operation with the hiring of LaFleur, but Murphy made it clear that wasn’t happening. Instead Murphy says Gutekunst has full control over the roster and won’t pull a Jerry Jones and make LaFleur change his play calls in certain down and distance situations. So the Packers will embark on a new era with a power structure similar to other teams in the league but vastly different than what has worked for them in the past.No one knows what the results will be Marcedes Lewis Jersey White , but Murphy’s job now likely depends on the outcome. You can read more on Murphy’s expanded role plus how Aaron Rodgers just secured a big payday in 2020 in today’s cheese curds.Packers’ CEO Mark Murphy: Team’s management structure built for football, financial success—PackersNews.comMurphy will be leaving his mark on the franchise, for better or worse, thanks to his restructuring of Green Bay’s football operations. The Lions were clearly focused on devoting as many resources to the secondary. Seven different defensive backs played more than 50 percent of the snaps, while that was true for just two players on the defensive line. It was a quiet day from Damon Harrison, which makes sense considering the Packers ran just 13 times on Sunday—and four of those were quarterback runs. Teez Tabor had an active day, playing the second-highest percentage of snaps in his career. It was a fairly quiet day from Tabor Womens A'Shawn Robinson Jersey , which is always a good thing for an NFL cornerback. At safety, both Tracy Walker and Tavon Wilson got more playing time than veteran Glover Quin. Despite the sharing of the wealth, Miles Killebrew was purely a special teams player. With the first pick http://www.lionslockerroom.com/authentic-anthony-zettel-jersey , POD commenter jjones164 took LSU linebacker Devin White fourth overall. Now where will jjones164 turn? Stick on the defensive side of the ball, or get some help on the offense to go with brand, shiny new toy Antonio Brown? With the 24th pick in the POD Community Mock, the Raiders have selected defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons. Here’s jjones164 with the explanation:“Am I contradicting my Pick 4 write up a bit? Yes. Do I regret taking White over Quinnen Williams? I REGRET NOTHING! I want a shot at having a premier talent at all three levels of my defense for the first four years in Vegas. If Oakland doesn’t like that, I don’t care about winning now, sue me... Oh wait Jake Rudock Jersey White , you did...Edge has been picked pretty clean by this point. I still don’t need to reach. I still like what I believe will be left in Round 2 when I pick.Until a torn ACL, Jeffery Simmons was a top 10, possibly top five pick in this draft. I like Dexter Lawrence, but taking him over Simmons would be like ordering Miller Lite, because you couldn’t wait three minutes for the Leinenkugel Summer Shandy keg to be changed out. Unlike Quinnen Williams, who had one monstrous year Womens Trey Flowers Jersey , Simmons has done it for three. In his final two years he had 123 tackles, 33 TFL, 7.0 sacks, three forced fumbles and five pass break ups. The man is dominant and did it in the toughest conference in football. With Jonathan Hankins on a one-year deal next to Maurice Hurst, I can ease him back into football shape. I’d take Byron Murphy here, but with Philly and Indy both needing long-term DL help Womens Eli Harold Jersey , Simmons won’t be there at 27. This is a huge year for Hurst now. Heading to Vegas he now needs to give me a reason to not try to re-sign Hankins, or he’s relegated to be rotational depth.I said I’d compare picks to see the big picture. First is current selections. Second is where I’d be had I take Quinnen at 4. This should be an accurate comparison, as TB’s GM said he would have taken White at 5.4: Devin White (LB - LSU)24: Jeffery Simmons (DT - Miss St)4: Quinnen Williams (DT - Bama)24: Byron Murphy (CB - Wash)Catch up on all of the picks with our Community Mock Draft Tracker
KANSAS CITY http://www.thebengalslockerroom.com/authentic-joe-mixon-jersey , Mo. (AP) — The Cincinnati Bengals knew that with a banged-up defense facing the NFL's highest-scoring offense, there was a good chance they'd have to simply outscore the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night. They barely outscored the Chiefs' defense.Andy Dalton was held to 148 yards passing with a touchdown and a pick-6, Joe Mixon managed 50 yards on the ground and the Cincinnati offense struggled to keep up with the high-flying Chiefs in what turned into a 45-10 rout finished off by the backups at Arrowhead Stadium. "Yeah, that's a good team. Everybody knows that they've been able to score points," Dalton said. "When you don't do that on your side of the ball it can turn into a game like it did."So much for the Chiefs bringing in the NFL's worst defense.Dalton was only sacked twice but was under constant duress, and the Bengals' running game — which still has not produced a 100-yard rusher this season — went absolutely nowhere.Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense piled up 551 yards in a dominant performance."It's on everybody," Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said. "The coaching staff has to do a great job of preparing. The (players) have to understand and make the adjustments, the execution — we knew that was going to be a big part of it. Communication, being alert Jessie Bates III Jersey White , making the adjustments and so forth throughout the football game. We did a poor job of that. We've got to understand that we have opportunities."We had a lot of plays," Lewis said, "where we've got to do better."Indeed, it's been a miserable couple weeks for the Bengals (4-3), who were flying high after a shootout win over Atlanta and a solid win over Miami. Dalton and Co. was rolling on offense and a defense that had been suspect coming into the season was starting to round into shape. Then came last week's 28-21 loss in Pittsburgh, when the Bengals picked up a slew of injuries while watching Ben Roethlisberger find Antonio Brown to give the Steelers the winning touchdown. That loss was competitive, but deflating.Their defeat Sunday night? Downright embarrassing.Making it sting even more was the fact that the Bengals, already without three key players due to injuries, watched three more playmakers go down. Emotional linebacker Vontaze Burfict limped off in the third quarter with a hip injury, speedy wide receiver John Ross went down with a groin injury and tight end Mason Schreck left with a knee injury.Throw in injuries to running back Giovani Bernard Womens Randy Bullock Jersey , center Billy Price and tight end Tyler Kroft and perhaps it's not so surprising the Bengals only managed 239 yards total offense against Kansas City.Ron Parker capped the forgettable performance by reading Dalton's eyes early in the second half, stepping in front of a pass and taking the interception back for a touchdown. The Chiefs had just scored to take a 31-7 lead, and the defensive score gave them two TDs in a span of 9 seconds."My guy kind of just stood up and blocked," Parker said, "and I just had my eyes on the quarterback. I saw him just looking to the right, had my eyes on him and took me right to the ball."If only Dalton's own targets were so productive.A.J. Green had seven catches for 117 yards but failed to reach the end zone, and Tyler Boyd was shut out until the second half after two TD grabs against the Steelers. Mixon tried to give the offense a bit of balance, but the Bengals were in such a hole early that they had to air it out. That didn't work. Nothing really did."It's just one game. We've got another one next week," Dalton said. "As much as this one sucks, like I said Jordan Evans Jersey , everything's still right there. We're in a great position. We've got to go take advantage of it."Sam Hubbard’s first NFL game in his hometown stadium was one to remember When Sam Hubbard was drafted by the Bengals in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, opinions were mixed.Did the Bengals really need another defensive end?Was he worth the pick? Why did he fall?Another Ohio State guy (after just taking Billy Price in Round 1)?But in his first game playing in his hometown NFL stadium (second NFL game overall) Hubbard began to show that the Bengals may have gotten a major draft steal. With 9:16 remaining in the first quarter of the Bengals’ Thursday Night Football win over the Ravens, Hubbard ran after Joe Flacco and sacked him for a loss of 11 yards. It was the rookie’s first NFL sack and it was awesome. What a moment for the Cincinnati native.“I thought he’d threw the ball away and stole it from me,” Hubbard said after the game. “It was awesome. It was a great feeling. A perfect play. It’s something I can emotionally never replace or forget about.” Hubbard went on to have an impressive tackle for loss in the second quarter and totaled five tackles in the game.He also — for the second week in a row — was used on offense in a goal-line run package. The Bengals let Ryan Hewitt walk during final roster cuts, and it seems the plan is to use Hubbard as a fullback, when needed. When Hubbard came in as a fullback in Week 1,Joe Mixon scored a touchdown. Mixon wasn’t as successful with Hubbard in the mix this week. But, I’d expect to see more of Hubbard on offense going forward. In the lead up to Thursday night’s game, defensive coordinator Teryl Austin said, “I have to play Sam Hubbard more.” Hubbard played just seven snaps on defense in the Bengals’ Week 1 win over the Colts. And playing Hubbard more is that’s exactly what happened in Week 2. Was it because he was a bigger part of the game plan? Or was it because of Michael Johnson’s knee injury? Either way Vincent Rey Jersey , Hubbard is proving he deserves to be on the field and we should expect him to be playing (on offense and defense) going forward.“It was a blast,” Hubbard said. “It was a little bit hot but it was a blast. The first primetime game.” In addition to it being great to see Hubbard becoming a productive member of the team, it’s also mind blowing to see Marvin Lewis playing his defensive rookies. Just before Hubbard’s first NFL sack, fellow rookie Jessie Bates got his first NFL interception. It came on a Joe Flacco pass intended for Michael Crabtree just minutes into the game. Bates returned it 21 yards to the Ravens’ 16 yard line and it led to Andy Dalton’s first touchdown pass to A.J. Green. It’s a different feeling as a Bengals fan to watch rookies making an impact on defense and it’s a feeling I think fans will enjoy quite a bit.“Playmakers making plays,” Hubbard said after the game.It looks like Hubbard is a playmaker!

VANCOUVER Matt Martin Jersey Womens , British Columbia — After being demoted to the minors, Sam Gagner was not expected back with the Vancouver Canucks anytime soon — if at all — this season. Now, he is in demand.Gagner is expected to suit up for his first NHL game of 2018-19 with the slumping and injury-riddled Canucks (10-10-2) on Monday when they host the Winnipeg Jets (11-5-2). The 29-year-old was recalled from the minors Sunday as the Canucks continued to reel from health problems.Article continues below ...“The team is playing fun hockey,” Gagner told Postmedia. “I’m excited to help them wherever I can. I’m excited to be back in the NHL.”The veteran forward was caught on the wrong end of Vancouver’s youth movement following the preseason. The Canucks opted to loan him to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League even though he is in the second season of a three-year, $9.45 million contract. It’s a one-way deal, so he has earned an NHL salary at the lower level.Gagner, who was placed on waivers and subjected to unsuccessful trade attempts before the demotion, justified his big salary in the minors by producing 15 points in 15 games. Coach Travis Green indicated that he could play multiple forward roles. Gagner has played both center and wing with Vancouver and other clubs.“He gives us another centerman option,” Green told reporters. “He’s a right shot on the power play. All reports were he was playing well.”The Canucks as a team, though Seth Griffith Jersey Womens , have not been up to snuff. Vancouver has lost five straight games and been outscored 16-7 in the past four. Gagner will become the latest addition to a list of players pulling diverse duty.“We’re squeezing everyone and everyone is giving as much as they can,” said Green. “One night, we got a guy on the fourth line and the next night he’s on the first line. I love the way our guys are working and competing.”Gagner’s recall is an attempt to help make up for missing injured forwards Brock Boeser (groin), Sven Baertschi (concussion), Jay Beagle (arm) and Brandon Sutter (shoulder). While Green tries to create more offensive juice, the Canucks also want to get better defensively. They have struggled to control other teams’ breakouts, as they did again Saturday in a 3-2 home loss to Montreal.“It’s something we talked about,” center Bo Horvat told reporters. “Play direct — not making it a track meet out there.”“It comes down to being able to defend,” added defenseman Ben Hutton. “Get back to the way we’ve been playing.”The Jets, 6-3-1 in their last 10 games Jack Roslovic Jersey Womens , have been playing well defensively of late. They have averaged two goals against in their past eight games. But Winnipeg is still wary of Canucks rookie sensation Elias Pettersson, 20, who is the only dangerous Vancouver player right now. He has produced 11 goals and seven assists in his first 16 NHL games.“Finding him will be a challenge,” Jets coach Paul Maurice told reporters. “He’s a special young man.”Jets defenseman Ben Chiarot called Pettersson a “pretty fun guy to watch.” “(He’s) someone we’ll adjust to once we get out there and see what he’s trying to do,” Chiarot told reporters. However, at least one Jet does not want to give Pettersson special attention.“I don’t watch a lot of video on solo guys,” goaltender Connor Hellebuyck told reporters. “It’s a team game and I know what I’m going to get — and I prepare the same way for every guy.” SUNRISE, Fla. — Lately, it’s been domination by the Buffalo Sabres and frustration by the Florida Panthers. On Friday night, the Panthers will host the Sabres (17-7-2) Scott Mayfield Jersey Womens , who had won 10 straight games until losing an epic 5-4 battle at the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night. The Panthers (9-10-4), meanwhile, are nearly halfway through a crucial eight-game home stretch. They are 1-1-1 so far and have given up some painful goals late in games.Article continues below ...On Saturday night, the Panthers appeared to have a win over the Chicago Blackhawks. However, Chicago scored with just 1.8 seconds left in regulation and then got the overtime goal to stun the Panthers. Then, on Wednesday, the Panthers lost 3-2 to the Anaheim Ducks, allowing the deciding goal with 1:28 left in the third period.“We’ve had a couple of tough bounces,” Panthers defenseman Keith Yandle said. “Those things come and go in waves. We just have to continue to stay in our system, and it will work itself out.”But the Panthers Max Domi Jersey Womens , who are tied for last in the 16-team Eastern Conference with 22 points, must feel a sense of urgency now that they have played roughly one-fourth of their season (23 games out of 82).Indeed, Panthers winger Jonathan Huberdeau said that giving up the late goal to the Ducks left a bitter taste.“It’s frustrating,” he said. “We battled a full 60 … It’s tough.”Things have been much happier for the Sabres, who had won seven of the 10 games in their streak in overtime. The Sabres finished last season with the worst record in the NHL but have found the winning formula so far this time around. The Sabres were so bad last season that they trailed the Panthers by 34 points in the standings … and the Panthers didn’t even make the playoffs. This season, the Sabres are fourth in the latest NHL power rankings put out by ESPN.com and also by CBS. The Panthers are 26th in the ESPN rankings and 21st by CBS.One of the keys for the Sabres is Rasmus Dahlin, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 draft who leads the league’s rookie defensemen with 13 points, including 11 assists.“We want to change this together,” Dahlin said of Buffalo’s transformation, so far at least http://www.officialsabres.com/authentic-adidas-jack-eichel-jersey , from last-place club to legitimate Stanley Cup contender.Dahlin had been on the ice for a team-best 12 goals during the just-concluded 10-game win streak. But it’s not just Dahlin. Goalie Carter Hutton had won eight consecutive games until losing on Thursday, the penalty kill has been outstanding, left winger Jeff Skinner leads the team with 19 goals, and center Jack Eichel tops the Sabres with 25 assists. On Friday night, on short rest, the Sabres will look to start a new streak … against a desperate Panthers team.

Shandor Alphonso never envisioned his hockey career taking him to officiating. He didn’t have to look far to see it was possible. As a young Authentic Marcus Johansson Jersey , black player, all Alphonso had to do was watch ”Hockey Night in Canada” or the Stanley Cup Final and he saw fellow minority Jay Sharrers working as a linesman.”To be able to see someone who kind of looked like me working at the biggest stage of his job, it was unreal,” Alphonso said. The 34-year-old Alphonso is the NHL’s only African-American official, and Calgary Flames assistant Paul Jerrard is the league’s only black coach. With the sport’s expansion to some nontraditional markets across the United States, there are almost two dozen black players in the NHL, but Sharrers, Alphonso and Jerrard serve as inspiration for more to follow into positions of authority.”I think it’s an evolutionary process,” said Sharrers, who recently retired. ”It’s definitely moved slowly, but I think when you just look at the amount of black players that are now in the league and the fact that that has increased, it would stand to reason that hopefully the opportunity for officials would present itself.”Sixty years after Willie O’Ree of the Boston Bruins broke the color barrier as the NHL’s first black player, the league is still taking steps to increase its diversity. Alphonso is an ambassador for the ”Hockey is for Everyone” campaign this month, which is Black History Month.Sharrers acknowledged the expense of playing hockey has been a hurdle for minority children for years, but said he is optimistic that more will not only lace up their skates but move into other roles.”It just stands to reason that that would be a natural progression Michael Hutchinson Jersey Womens , that there would more officials of color,” Sharrers said. ”The league has been very proactive since they partnered with Willie and created the diversity taskforce almost 20 years ago to expose and to present to people of color that hockey is a great game and it’s a viable opportunity.”Opportunities have existed for minorities to get into coaching and officiating, though the majority have ended up as goaltending coaches like former NHL goalie Fred Brathwaite. Jerrard played five games in the NHL and then went into coaching, where he’s a visible role model – even if that’s not a role he was looking for.”I’m just another coach who’s trying to do a good job in the league and stay in the league,” said Jerrard, 52, who has been an assistant with the Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars and Flames along with several American Hockey League teams. ”I guess I am now in a little bit of a position of a role model, but my drive to be a role model isn’t due to the color of my skin. It’s just the way I wanted carry myself as a human being, the way I want to be looked at: doing the right thing and working hard.”Jerrard hopes kids seeing minorities on the ice playing or officiating or behind the bench coaching shows that ”if they’re skilled, driven and passionate, there’s an opportunity for them.”That’s what happened for Alphonso, who knew he wasn’t going to make it to the NHL as a player and wanted to stay in the game. He thought to himself, ”If Jay Sharrers can do it, I could do it” and followed him up the ranks. Now Alphonso is the one kids can look up to http://www.officialdevils.com/authentic-adidas-miles-wood-jersey , and Sharrers – who became the NHL’s first black referee in 2001 – believes his younger counterpart can have an even bigger impact.”Being that his skin is a lot darker than mine and I’m very light-skinned, it wouldn’t register necessarily with someone unless they knew my background to know that I was a person of color,” Sharrers said. ”I think for him having both parents being black and being much more of a visible minority, if you will, I think that’s definitely a role that he will now assume.”Alphonso welcomes that position and would love to one day meet a fellow official he inspired to go that route.”It’s huge for younger kids to see there are way more things to hockey than just being a hockey player,” Alphonso said. ”That’s hopefully what we can inspire these kids to do and get them more involved with the game down the road.”— RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Greg McKegg made his Carolina debut one to remember.McKegg had a goal and an assist in his first game with the Hurricanes, and Carolina defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-2 Friday night.McKegg was recalled from Charlotte of the American Hockey League on an emergency basis earlier Friday after Carolina placed Jordan Staal on injured reserve. Playing in his first NHL game since November 2017, the journeyman center assisted on a goal in the first period and scored the decisive goal in the second to lift the Hurricanes to their third straight win.“He’s a pro,” Carolina coach Rod Brind’Amour said. “We did a nice job getting him in our organization. He had a great training camp and he was right there. This was an easy call-up. He’s obviously trying to stay here. I love it.”It was the first multi-point game of McKegg’s six-year career. It came after he got word of his call-up late Thursday, made a two-hour drive from Belleville, Ontario, to Toronto, caught an early flight and arrived in Raleigh late Friday morning.“Obviously it’s special,” McKegg said. “You never know when (a call-up) is going to come and you just have to keep grinding away. To contribute at this level at any point in your career is special. “Micheal Ferland Nico Hischier Jersey , Dougie Hamilton and Sebastian Aho added goals for Carolina. Curtis McElhinney stopped 22 shots in his second straight win after four consecutive losses.Oliver Bjorkstrand and Artemi Panarin scored 25 seconds apart in the second period for the Blue Jackets. Sergei Bobrovsky surrendered three goals on 16 shots before being pulled midway through second period.“I always think a hockey team should get better each and every game,” Columbus coach John Tortorella said. “And tonight there were just way too many passengers.”McKegg, playing for his fifth team in six seasons, helped propel Carolina to an early 3-0 lead.Ferland’s one-timer from the left faceoff circle put Carolina up 5:16 into the first period. Less than 90 seconds later, Hamilton made it 2-0 when his wrist shot from the left point deflected off Bobrovsky’s glove and trickled into the net. After setting up Hamilton’s goal with a drop pass, McKegg found the net in the second period.Brett Pesce fired a pass for McKegg breaking down the middle toward the goal, and McKegg redirected the puck into the net — again off Bobrovsky’s glove — to make it 3-0.“You just kind of want to put your best foot forward and contribute any way you can,” McKegg said. “To chip in at this level is obviously special. To cap it off with a win was pretty awesome.”Joonas Korpisalo replaced Bobrovsky shortly after.“I’m not giving assessment on the goaltending,” Tortorella said. “Korpi played well. He was one of the few guys who played well.”Bjorkstrand and Panarin’s quick goals late in the period pulled the Blue Jackets within one heading into the third, but McElhinney stopped all seven shots he faced in the final period and Aho scored an empty-netter with two seconds remaining to secure the Carolina victory.“We came out great. I thought the guys to a man were on it,” Brind’Amour said. “Every part of our game was pretty solid.”NOTES: Columbus captain Nick Foligno missed his second straight game to tend to his newborn daughter, Milana, who had heart surgery last week.
